Today we are laying conduit on the Northern edge of the fiber ring in Akron. Pictured, on right, is boring on Glenwood Avenue.

Boring is a process that places conduit and fiber underground while minimizing digging. It offers significant environmental advantages over traditional cut and cover pipeline/utility installations.

Project Update
At the Nov. 2 Summit County Council meeting, Mayor Roth and Ernie Staten reported the FairlawnGig fiber ring project is on budget and on time to be completed by the end of December.

The project is expected to create opportunities for economic development.

Brian Nelsen, chief of staff for the Summit County Executive’s Office, reports that the Summit County Council would be asked to approve next week legislation to purchase about $13 million in equipment to operate FairlawnGig, using CARES Act funding.
